Manufacturing and running the ultrasonic system for testing and thickness measuring CNG cylinders
According to the standards’ requirements for producing CNG cylinders and their production characteristics, ultrasonic method is suggested as the best method, that is able to detect longitudinal and transvers flaws inside and outside of the cylinders as well as measuring the thickness accurately .
So, the ultrasound is propagated in three directions, vertical to the wall of cylinder with 0 degree, parallel to the cylinder axis with 45 degree and vertical to cylinder axis with 45 degree and if there are flaws, the sounds are reflected to the probes and signals would appear in the screen.
PEJVAK Rayan automatic ultrasonic testing system for CNG cylinders, model (Flaw Hunter CNG 9506) is used to detect longitudinal and Transverse flaws, and thickness measurement in CNG cylinder, with 4 – 20 inch diameter and 3 – 20 mm thickness.
Because of high sensitivity of cylinders testing, this system uses water jet technique. In this system the cylinders spin and the probes move along the cylinders and scan the whole body. The probes are placed in special shoes and holder and they sit on the cylinder and move alongside the body while it is spinning and scan the body.
This system can have 5 up to 15 channels and a 15-channel system is able to test a 14 inch cylinder with 1 m length, in one minute.
This system is capable of detecting N5 notches with 5% of the thickness and measures the thickness with 0.05mm accuracy.
The repeatability of the test results equal to POD=%99 is one of the special features of this system.
